Last month I joined a fabulous pop-up event, celebrating women in the arts, hosted by The Body Lovin' Series. It was a fantastic night (even with the taxi strike casting a threatening shadow)!
Of course, I should have known that I would do a shocking job of documenting it all, even when countless people made me promise to take lots of photos (SORRY!)... You'll just have to settle for the teeny-tiny, meek collection that I did manage to take!
I'm very proud that my work was featured amongst such wonderfully talented artists! The performance art was just as impressive and fun, with vibrant singers, dancers, comedians and poets taking to the stage. Later in the evening (waaaay past my bedtime!) we were treated to a hilariously sexy burlesque performance, with two wildly talented drag queens closing the show with their jaw-dropping performances (all on stilettos high and pointy enough to be considered potential murder weapons, no less!). Really something unique and entertaining!
Above and beyond the thrilling entertainment and wonderful company, the exhibition was a rare opportunity for me to see a whole collection of my original art displayed all together. I know that sounds a bit odd... They're my artworks, after all -- why all the fuss about seeing them?! Well, I spend weeks creating each one, and on completion, they are hastily packed away for safe keeping. I rarely see them again (except on a screen), and never really all together like that.
It was like a little gallery of my blood, sweat and tears. It gifted me the opportunity to stand back and go, "I did this". How often do we take the time to pause, reflect and pat ourselves on the back? I actually got a little choked up...
Needless to say, it took me about a week to recover from all the excitement and the crazy late night, but it was worth it!
